Buka and Momote Airport which have faced operational and safety issues will now be fenced after a local company was awarded contract to supply fencing equipment.

On Tuesday, National Airports Corporation’s Civil Aviation Development Investment Program (CADIP)awarded the 6.2Million project to Markham Culverts to supply fencing materials for the two airports.
NAC Acting Managing Director, Joseph Tupiri said the fencing of the two airports have been an issue for the organization for the past years.
“We have had so many safety concerns over the last few years and today we are happy that we’ve signed the contract for the fencing materials to be supplied. We will now move into procuring an installation company to actually install the fence which will improve the security of the airports,” He Said Tupiri.
He said that Momote airport is also important as Buka because of the increase of aircraft movement in the area due to the regional processing center.
General Manager of Markham Culverts, Ron Lane said the company is pleased to be awarded the contract.
“Not so many people realize that we are partially owned by the people of Papua New Guinea and for Markham Culverts to be rewarded the contract is a win for the people and also a reward to this reputable company,” Said Mr. Lane.
“We actually have all the materials for the fencing of the airports ready to be supplied. We have all the materials here in the country and we look forward to the successful completion of the fences and also to partner with NAC in the near future,” Added Lane.
The contractor is also the same company that had supplied materials for the fencing of Wapendamanda and Vaimo Airports.
