Grand Chief Sir Michael: Story of PNG is my story

University of Papua New Guinea students were challenged by Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare to be better leaders in the future during the recent 2015 Waigani Seminar.

Grand Chief Sir Michael who spoke of his experience in leading PNG to independence said that to be a good leader, you have to practice effective leadership & good governance.

Speaking on the seminar's theme; celebrating the past, understanding the present and charting the future through effective leadership and good governance, Grand Chief Sir Michael said that PNG has come a long way to turn back.

"The story of this country is my story. I celebrate the past and my experiences will help me shape the future. Let us let the past go and look forward to the future," said Grand Chief Sir Michael.

Sir Michael stressed that the road to independence took long with broader consultations with all the tribes in PNG so that PNG could enjoy the freedom it does today.

"PNG has achieved a lot and I and my peers have done this through the friends to all and enemy to none approach," Said Sir Michael.

He added that although he has been removed from office illegally as Prime Minister in 2011, he is pleased to see the fruits of his hard work being enjoyed by citizens of this country.
