Cash crises needs addressing: Polye

Opposition Leader, Don Polye said the country’s current economic management crisis shows that the country’s economy is being run on an ad-hoc manner without much understanding on contemporary condition today. Polye in a press conference last week Thursday said that ordinary Papua New Guineans are experiencing the consequences while the government continues to ignore the situation. He said vital Departments like Heath and Education are paying the price as cash shortages continue to hinder basic goods and services to the people. “Statutory organizations and state bodies have not received their full operational funds. Members of Parliament have not been paid their full salaries as well for more than three months. “Public servants are suffering silently as fortnights have gone by since last September and they have not received their full pay. “Embarrassingly, PNG’s diplomats and their staff overseas have not received full pays and other funding as well,” H

  Newly built Watung Boarder post at the PNG/Indonesian boarder soon to be opened. Wutung Border Post has reached completion and is expected to open after an approved date by National Executive Council.   Boarder Development Authority Chairman, Fred Konga,and Project Manager Barnabas Neausemale visited the PNG/Indonesian boarder to inspect the post. Mr.Konga said he is pleased with the work that was done by the contractors and is expected to fully function by March 2016. The Watung Boarder post is one of Asian Development Bank funded projects around the country in partnership with the PNG Government. ADB had funded up K25Million and the government chipped in K5Mllion. “The infrastructure will be equipped with state of the art security systems that will include CCTV’s, X-Ray machines and the biggest scanner in the country to scan cargoes coming in and out of the country. System to monitor teachers

The new attendance system for teachers will be rolled out this year in all 110 schools in National Capital District. PNG Teachers’ Association National General Secretary Ugwalubu Mowana said the system will improve teaching and learning in the classroom for students and will allow teachers to be in schools at all times. “The system is to ensure that the teachers are at work, it records when they come in and go out. The number of hours teachers’ missed, it’s to do with teachers attendance to improve teaching and learning of our children. “It will improve teachers’ performance, increase productivity. It eliminates wastage of funds. I have been informed on Monday that funding has been approved and the project will kick off with schools in NCD, some Secondary schools in Lae, Kokopo and Mt Hagen,” He Said. Ipatas Cup playoffs begin

Sunday Chronicle sunday, 7th February, 2016 Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup (CCIC) began its Southern Region competition last weekend at the Murray Barracks sports Oval. The 18 teams which took part will be in the running for two golden passes that will see teams battling it out to represent National Capital District and Central Province. Co-sponsor and Enga Governor Grand Chief Sir Peter Ipatas was also present to officially kick off the competition. Old Jackson's Aiport terminal and tower go down

Kemele Construction who had been awarded the contract to demolish the old buildings has started work last week with the removal of the old tower on Tuesday. Pineapple House reopens

Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc and Prime Minister Peter O'Neill.               Marae House or famously known as Pineapple Building was renamed to Sir Manasupe house by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill last week Wednesday. The building which had undergone a face lift after years of neglect was handed over to the Prime Minister. O’Neill said it is suitable to name the house after people who had given meritorious service to the nation for many years. “I see this time is fitting to rename this building to those who have provided distinguished service to this country. It is with great honour today that I rename this house to Sir Manasupe House,” He said. Sir Manasupe Zurenauc who had just resigned as Chief Secretary due to health reasons was recognised for 30 years of service to the country.
