Border Post ready

Newly built Watung Boarder post at the PNG/Indonesian boarder soon to be opened.
Wutung Border Post has reached completion and is expected to open after an approved date by National Executive Council.

Boarder Development Authority Chairman, Fred Konga, and Project Manager Barnabas Neausemale visited the PNG/Indonesian boarder to inspect the post.
Mr.Konga said he is pleased with the work that was done by the contractors and is expected to fully function by March 2016.
The Watung Boarder post is one of Asian Development Bank funded projects around the country in partnership with the PNG Government. ADB had funded up K25Million and the government chipped in K5Mllion.
“The infrastructure will be equipped with state of the art security systems that will include CCTV’s, X-Ray machines and the biggest scanner in the country to scan cargoes coming in and out of the country. As part of this development, we will have a patrol boat also in place at the post to monitor our waters along our boarder.
“We have started in 2014 and the building is complete,” He said.
Mr.Neausemale said the development also included a social component where villages along the area were provided with basic needs that included a construction of a clinic to support the safe motherhood program that provides assistance to pregnant mothers and sick children.
“Rather than traveling all the way to Vanimo, the will access basic health care at their own community. Funding is available for that,” He Said.
Apart from the border post, staff houses have also been built along the same area.
