System to monitor teachers

The new attendance system for teachers will be rolled out this year in all 110 schools in National Capital District.
PNG Teachers’ Association National General Secretary Ugwalubu Mowana said the system will improve teaching and learning in the classroom for students and will allow teachers to be in schools at all times.
“The system is to ensure that the teachers are at work, it records when they come in and go out. The number of hours teachers’ missed, it’s to do with teachers attendance to improve teaching and learning of our children.
“It will improve teachers’ performance, increase productivity. It eliminates wastage of funds. I have been informed on Monday that funding has been approved and the project will kick off with schools in NCD, some Secondary schools in Lae, Kokopo and Mt Hagen,” He Said.
The system is expected to cost about K2.7 Million and will very province by province.
The system contains a backup solar power component of the package that will be rolled out in remote provinces that are without electricity.
Three schools in NCD last year who piloted the system showed that the attendance of teachers was in a serious state of concern said Mowana.
The three schools piloted last year was Ted Diro Primary, Limana Vocational and Badihagwa Secondary School and Mowana urged teachers to embrace the system which will result in performance and attendance of teachers and will improve productivity as well.
